Harry Potter
Harry Potter (played by Daniel Radcliffe in the films) is the main character and an orphan.
Harry Potter was born to Lilly and James Potter. After Lilly and James were killed by Voldemort, he was taken to the Dursleys to live when he was about 1 year old. The Dursleys are Vernon, the Dad, and cruel hearted business man, Petunia, the mother, Lilly's sister and probably the most responsible for the spoiling of their son, Dudley. Dudley is awfully spoilt and ungrateful. He is Harry's cousin. Despite having to live with them, Harry stays very nice. He may think he is a perfectly normal boy, but he is more than that. Following a visit to the zoo, and the abnormal release of a snake from its tank, Harry begins to receive letters from Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry telling him he can join in the following year. Vernon and Petunia are desperate to keep away from the magical World, and after an event were loads of letters come shooting in from the chimney, Harry has to move. But Hagrid (the Hogwarts game keeper takes him away and he quickly starts his new life at Hogwarts.
Harry quickly be friends Ron Weasly and his brothers Fred, George and prefect Percy. Harry is put into the house Gryffindor with Ron, and Neville, Hermione who we later makes friends with. Also in Gryffindor are the Patil twins, Lavender Brown, Seamus Finnigan, Dean Thomas, Colin Creevy, Ginny Weasly, Romilda Vane and Fred and George to name a couple. he also is friends with Luna lovegood.
In his first year, Harry makes an enemy, Draco Malfoy. In his first year, Draco steals Neville's remembrall in flying lessons, Harry chases after it and is spotted by proffeser Mcgonagall, who tells Oliver Wood. Wood is the quidditch captain, and although first years aren't aloud to join the squad, Harry joins and make Malfoy very jealous.
I can't say much, as it may spoil the books for other fans, but during the books he has the task of defeating the dark lord, lord voldemort. Harry is in Dumbledore's army. In the last book, Voldemort thinks he has killed Harry but he has not. Harry then kills Voldemort. He marries Ginny Weasly 17 years later and has three children, James, Lilly and Albus.

Ron Weasly
Ron is another main Character, played by Rupert Grint. Ron is Harry's best friend, along with Hermione, Ron is born into a poorish family. His mother is called Molly and his Dad is named Arthur (works at the ministry of magic). All of his siblings went to Hogwarts. They are (in age order): Bill, Charlie, Percy, the twins Fred and George and Ginny. Ron meets Harry on their first day, and the two share goods such as chocolate frogs. Ron was put into Gryffindor.
Through out the book/ film, Harry and Ron and Hermione have been good friends, despite a few disputes. Ron is great at wizard chess which comes in handy in the 'Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone'. Also, in 'Harry Potter and the Half blood prince' Ron begins his quidditch playing successfully. In the goblet of fire film however, Ron attends the Yule ball with one of the Patil twins, dressed in an outfit you could call humourus.
At the end of the books, Ron learns to drive a car, which is pretty cool supposing he isn't muggle. He gets married to Hermione and they have two children, Hugo and Rose. Again, not wanting to spoil anything, so please look away if you have not read the books, but unfortunately, his brother, Fred, dies. :'(

Hermione Granger
Hermione Granger (a.k.a Emma Watson) like Ron, is one of Harry's best friends. At first, we don't get a great impression of her. We see her as a bossy know it all but as she gets to know Harry and Ron more she relaxes more.
We meet Hermione on the Hogwarts express in Harry's first year when Neville Longbottom loses his pet toad Trevor. She got into the boat with Ron, Harry and Neville on the way to School. Ron and Harry weren't friends with her then and throughout the first few weeks she found her time studying. Hermione immediately made it into the good side of prof. Mcgonnagol and others.
However, when Quirrel let the troll in, she was saved by the two boys and they became friends.
Throughout the books, Hermione stays the same fussy study-aholic though even though she is very nice. She is always around her friends. But one important thing about her is that she is a muggle- both her parents are dentists. When Malfoy calls her a mudblood, she is very upset. But she teaches Malfoy a lesson in Prisoner of Azkaban.
In the last book, Hermione is mentioned a lot due to her helping of Harry. She can be described as quick thinking which comes in help for Harry. Also in the last books 19 years later, she marries Ron and they have two children, Hugo and Rose. She can also be responsible for the writing of 'The tales of Beedle the Bard', actually written by J.K.Rowling.

Draco Malfoy
Apart from Voldemort, Draco Malfoy (played by Tom Felton) is Harry's arch enemy.
We first meet Malfoy in a tailor's shop buying uniform, and we almost instantly find out he is snobby. On the train, he seems rather stuck up, and confident about getting into Slytherin. He is also a really big muggle hater.
Draco is put into Slytherin and makes friends with Crabbe and Goyle (two fellow class mates). Having a potions teacher in Slytherin (Severus Snape) he likes the subject. He makes enemies with Harry and Ron and Hermione (especially Harry and Ron) by the stealing of Neville's remembrall. However, Malfoy stealing this backfired as it got Harry into the Gryffindor Quidditch team.
Do not read on if you haven't read the last book!!!!
In the last book, Malfoy kind of changes teams, as well as his mum and dad. His mum also does a big favour to Harry as she does't tell Voldemort about Harry's being alive. He also marries Astoria Greengrass, and has a son called Scorpius.

Ginny Weasly
Ginevra Molly Weasly (played by Bonnie Wright in the films) is a main character in Harry Potter. She is Ron's younger sister and is the only girl to be born into the Weasly family for generations. She is the youngest of the 7 Weasly children and is also a pure blood (and was born some time shortly before the end of the first wizarding war).
we first meet Ginny when Ron is going to Hogwarts for his first year. Unfortunately, she wasn't young enough to go to the School so she was only in the first part when the Weasly children depart from their Mum. However, Ginny plays a slightly major role in the following film, the Chamber of Secrets, as she is responsible for the crimes. It wasn't her fault though. She had found Riddle's diary and used it as her own and she always was happy as it replied to her thoughts. She really confided in the diary though as when the diary wrote back, she trusted and did as it said. It told her to kill roosters, support the basilisk, write the blood message on the floor and throw the book at Myrtle. She is incredibly lucky as Harry, Ron and Hermione came to rescue her. She was also sorted into Gryffindor, like all the other of her siblings. Despite being in Gryffindor, her favourite subject is Charms.
In Prisoner of Azkaban, Ginny isn't that main but travels to Egypt with her family on a holiday and sends Harry a get well soon card. In Goblet of Fire, she attends the Yule ball with Neville.
In the Order of the Phoenix, Ginny's fourth year and Harry's fifth, Ginny joins Dumbledore's army and successfully creates a horse shaped patronus, showing of a talent of power and ability to master advanced spells. She also hears about her fathers being attacked and takes part in the battle of the department of mysteries- she basically saves almost every Hogwarts student there's lives.
In the next book (Half Blood Prince) Ginny is in the Slug Club. Ginny also helped with the disposal of Harry's potion book which was vital for the story line.
Ginny has a series of relationships throughout the schoool. When she first arrives at the school she develops a crush on Harry but later she desides she has "given up on him" and gets a boyfriend, Michael Corner. She later moves onto Dean Thomas.
In the last book, she comforts Harry over the deaths of *** *** ***** and ******. She was also a bridesmaid at Bill's wedding, wearing a pretty golden dress. At the end of the book, in the 19 years later bit, she marries Harry and they have three kids: Lilly, James and Albus. She became a professional quidditch player for a while for the Holyhead Harpies but then retired and later in her life she became the senior quidditch correspondent for the daily prophet.

Neville Longbottom
Neville Longbottom (played by Matthew Lewis) is a main character-great friend of Harry and fellow dumbledore's army member.
We meet Neville when he loses and finds his pet toad, Trevor. He is portrayed as a clumsy boy and in the books he is described as short and plump and blond. He is incredibly shy and is an easy target for bullies such as Malfoy, so it is a surprise when he is picked for gryffindor. However, at the end of the first book, he stands up for himself earning a nice reward of many house points (so his house win the house cup) even though Hermione hits him with a body bind charm. I personally think he should be in Hufflepuff.
Neville is pure blood, so in the second book he is safe from the basilisk. In the second book he doesn't really do much (but does take up new subjects) apart from struggling with his monster book of monsters but in Goblet of Fire however, he saves Harry from dying with the gilly weed, even though he thought he killed him. Neville's parents, Frank and Alice were respected aurors (aurors track down dark wizards) until unfortunately they were caught by death eaters and made insane by torturing methods-but they still survived and stayed mental.
In the last few books, Neville shows his brave side and joins dumbledore's army. In the battle of Hogwarts, we see Neville's true loyalty when Voldemort himself asks Neville to be a death eater and Neville refuses of course. Instead, good old Neville destroyed Nangini, one of the horcruxes and Voldemort's beloved snake.
Neville has a very nice life after Hogwarts. (after briefly being an auror) he had always been fascinated by plants and herbology lessons, so to suit his personality his future career is.... the herbology teacher at Hogwarts and married Hannah Abbott.

Voldemort
Lord Voldemort is the main villain in the series, voiced by Ian Hart in the philosophers stone, and also played by Christian Coulson, Hero Fiennes-Triffen, Frank Dillane and Michael Berendt as all the Tom Riddles. The real Voldemort is played by Ralph Fiennes.
Tom Marvelo Riddle or Voldemort is best know for the darkest wizard of his time, and possibly the time before. He is a half blood but prefers pure bloods and despises muggles.
We see Tom at his youngest when he is in the orphanage as a young boy at about the age of ten or eleven. Proffessor Dumbledore (the transfiguration teacher) came from Hogwarts to ask Tom to enrol at Hogwarts. Obviously, Tom accepted and he began his life as a wizard. We do not know much about all his life but we do have loads of evidence about what he did at School. In probably his third of more year, the chamber of secrets was opened and Hogwarts was going to have to have closed. Tom put the blame of Hagrid who was expelled. Tom was awarded a trophy but it wasn't actually Hagrid. When Tom was in his later years, he was prefect and possibly head boy too. He also asked prof. Slughorn about horcruxes.
When Voldemort grew up, he turned bad. He summoned up a great army of death-eaters and decided that in order to live forever, he needed horcruxes and to do so he needed to kill people. He then killed many more and made 7 horcruxes. These people included the couple Lilly and James Potter. However, when Tom attempted to murder their young son (about 1 year old) he couldn't murder the baby and all his powers were drained out of him and Voldemort lost his powers and retreated to a forest in Albania. He'd given Harry some of his powers in a scar.
In the philosopher's stone, Voldemort connected to Quirell- the defence against the dark arts teacher- and unsuccessfully tried to defeat Harry. The same happens in the Chamber of Secrets. He isn't seen in the prisoner of Azkaban though, but in The Goblet of Fire, he is at the end of a portkey waiting for Harry. He kills Cedric Diggory but can't kill Harry. Through the other books, he sends death eaters to attack the boy, or Harry has the task to destroy the horcruxes.
In the final book, Harry has the ask to kill Tom. Tom is killed in May 1998 aged 71.

Albus Dumbledore
Albus Percivale Wulfric Brian Dumbledore is a main character.
His life started of as a young boy with a mum and dad, a brother Arianna and brother Aberforth. His sister began to show magical abilities at a young age just like every other wizard and witch. Arianna however, was curious by her ability and practised in the garden. Unfortunately, she didn't know that some muggle boys were spying at her and were shocked by what they saw, so they attacked her, leaving her unable to attend Hogwarts when she was older, so Albus's Dad (Percival) attacked the muggles and was put into Azkaban for life and everyone believed that the Dumbledore's were therefore muggle haters. Kendra, Albus's Mum, moved her children from the village to Godric's hollow (place where Harry Potter was born and lived for a year and home of Bathilda Bagshot).
At the age of eleven, Albus started at Hogwarts, leaving his brother and sister at home with his Mum. He befriended Elphias Dodge , both of whom had seemed outsiders. Albus because of his Dad's attack on the boys and Elphias because of the fact he had recently had dragon pox. Not many people liked Albus as they thought like his Dad he didn't like muggles (even though his Dad only attacked them out of anger) .
Even though people hated his Dad, Albus almost instantly became on of the best students in his first year as he was practically amazing at every subject there was. He had more friends and as time went by he won every prize that the School had! His brother joined in his third year. Still a Schoolboy, he had a chance to work with famous wizards and witches like Bathilda Bagshot, Nicholas Flamel and a quite unknown name in Harry Potter, Adalbert Waffling. He even published work like transfiguration today, challenges in charming and the practical potioneer. Everyone knew he would have a wide variety of careers to choose from and would soon be offered the job of minister for magic after his leaving of School.
After finishing Hogwarts and being probably the most successful student of all time, he and Elphias had decided to travel and learn across the globe, but sadly his Mum Kendra died so Albus dropped out of the travels and Elphias went on them solo. Albus stayed behind to look after his brother and sister. During the time of Elphias's visits, in Durmstrang School in Bulgaria, Gellert Grindelwald, a student, had been expelled and moved over to England where he stayed with his great aunt Bathilda. An unlikely friend ship sprung up between the two young yet great wizards and it is believed they often talked about dark things about magic is might, where wizards ruled. However, Dumbledore is a good man, and the friendship ended.
In 1945, Gellert and Albus's friendship ended and a fight broke out between Albus, Gellert and Aberforth. Both brothers against Grindelwald. Arianna, curious over magic, got scared and was hit by a flying curse (from Grindelwald) and died. Grindelwald was defeated by Dumbledore and put into his jail. At Arianna's funeral, Aberforth began to fight Albus and said it was his fault the girl died. This is how Albus's nose broke.
Career wise, Albus was offered the post of minister for magic and refused it at least three times. He loved the idea of teaching. He became the transfiguration teacher at Hogwarts whilst Armando Dippet acted as headmaster. During this time, Dumbledore met Tom Riddle when he had to invite Tom to Hogwarts. Soon enough, Dumbledore became the headteacher and one of the best too.
In Half blood prince, Dumbledore was killed by Severus Snape.
